Dordt College Volleyball vs. Northwestern-NAIA Region III Pool Match

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team earned a pool play victory over the Northwestern Red Raiders 3-1 on Friday morning in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the NAIA Region III volleyball tournament.

Northwestern ran away with game one by a 30-20 margin, pulling away from a 14-14 tie to take a 24-16 lead and the eventual win.

Northwestern had control of game two, leading by an 18-11 margin, but Dordt fought back, tying the game at 20-20 and eventually taking a 28-23 lead and held on for a 30-27 win.

Game three had Dordt in control almost from the start, taking as much as a 16-6 lead only to have Northwestern cut the lead down to 22-20 and 24-21 before five points in a row made it 29-21 and Dordt won 30-23.

Down 2-1, Northwestern couldn't gather much momentum, trailing early at 13-5. Dordt held the lead to 17-10 before Northwestern made their best charge to cut the lead to 17-15 but Dordt College was able to build the lead to 28-21. Northwestern had one more charge but came away short, getting to 28-25 before succumbing 30-25.

Dordt was led by Kristin De Ronde with 16 kills and was in on three block assists while Kendra Potgeter and Larissa Veldhuizen each had 14 kills. Potgeter was in on two solos and six assisted blocks and Emily Van Voorst led Dordt with 48 assists. Dorinda Hibma got to 24 digs.

Northwestern wasled by Megan Meyer's 28 kills and Hillary Hanno had 12 kills with Rachel Gosselink putting up 58 assists. Janna Bloemendaal had 31 digs and Kaitlin Bever 25.

Dordt is 32-8 and will face Dickinson State in their second match of pool play at about 1:00 this afternoon. Northwestern is scheduled to face Dickinson State at 5:00. The champion in each pool advances to the NAIA Region III championship on Saturday evening at 7:00 at Sioux Falls Christian High School.
