Dordt College Volleyball vs. Morningside-GPAC Semifinals

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision at the hands of the Morningside Mustangs on Wednesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference semifinal play at Allee Gym on Morningside's campus. The win vaults the Mustangs into the finals of the conference tournament on Saturday while the Defenders must now await a potential at-large bid to the NAIA Region III tournament next weekend.

Dordt and Morningside were even early in game one with an 11-11 tie. Morningside pulled away to an 18-12 lead and Dordt was forced to play from behind the rest of the way, cutting the lead to 20-19 but couldn't turn the corner and lost 30-22.

Game two was even early as well with nine ties to the 13-13 mark before Morningside again went on a run to take control at 17-13 and Dordt never got closer than 22-20 the rest of the game before losing 30-22. Game three was tied seven times, the last time at 12-12 when Morningside scored four in a row for a 16-12 advantage and went on to control the game to a final of 30-24.

Dordt was led by Autumn Vande Kamp's 12 kills and Kristin De Ronde had 10 while Larissa Veldhuizen added nine. Emily Van Voorst had 31 assists and six digs and Dorinda Hibma led Dordt with 13 digs. De Ronde had three solo and three assisted blocks.

Morningside got 16 kills from Amber Jarzynka and 14 by Catie Bobier and Kali Angerman had 44 assists. Angerman also had four service aces and Jericho Johnson had 11 digs. Morningside had 11 service aces as a team.

Dordt is 31-8 after the loss. This is the first time since the formation of the GPAC in 2000 that Dordt College has not advanced to the post-season conference finals.
