Dordt College Volleyball vs. Doane

(Crete, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at the hands of the Doane Tigers in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball on Saturday afternoon in Crete, Nebraska.

The Defenders won game three 33-31 after dropping games one and two by identical scores of 30-26. In fact, the Defenders lost game four as well by a 30-26 count.

dordt was playing catch up the last half of game one, falling behind 18-14 on a four point run by the Tigers. Dordt did close the gap to two on several occasions but couldn't come back.

Game two was there for the taking but the Defenders couldn't close at the end, losing a 22-15 lead with Doane tying it at 22 on seven straight points and taking the lead for good at 25-24. In game three the Defenders again built a lead of 25-19 and managed to hang on for a 33-31 win, forcing game four. The teams battled to 11 ties up to a 22-22 deadlock when Doane used a three point run to get some breathing room and held on for the win at 30-26.

Larissa Veldhuizen and Kendra Potgeter had 20 and 17 kills respectively while Kristin De Ronde added 13. Emily Van Voorst put up 62 assists and Dorinda Hibma had 23 digs. Hibma also had three service aces in Dordt's sixth loss of the season. Doane was paced by Kari Hochstein with 21 kills and Jessy Livers added 17. The Tigers had 10 ace serves in their tenth win of the season against seven losses.

Dordt is 2-4 in the GPAC and 21-6 overall while Doane is 4-1 in the league. Dordt travels to Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa on Wednesday, October 3 in their next outing.
