Dordt College Volleyball vs. College of Saint Mary

(Omaha, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team went to Omaha, Nebraska Tuesday, August 28 and came away with a 3-1 match win over the 14th ranked College of Saint Mary Flames. The win was Dordt's fourth of the season and their second ever at the Lied Center, CSM's home court.
Dordt dropped game one of the match 30-25 after fighting back to tie the game at 20-20. A five point run by the Flames put them in control and they were able to hold on for the win despite a Dordt run that narrowed the gap to 28-25.
Dordt trailed in game two 17-15 before tying it at 17. The game featured a total of nine ties beofre Dordt scored three in a row to lead 27-24. After a College of Saint Mary timeout the Flames scored three in a row to cut it to 27-26 but two points in a row by the Defenders made it 29-26. CSM did tie the game at 29 but the Defenders broke the service and then won the game on a Dorinda Hibma ace serve to tie the match at 1-1.
The two teams were even in game three to an 18-18 tie, the eighth of the game. CSM scored seven of the next ten points to take a commanding 25-21 lead but were unable to close the game out with the Defenders scoring nine of the final ten points in the game for a 30-26 decision. The momentum kept rolling Dordt's way as they scored the first six points of game four and were up 18-5 at one point and went on to win game four 30-14.
The Defenders were led by Kristin De Ronde's 18 kills and Autumn Vande Kamp added ten with Larissa Veldhuizen putting down eight and Kendra Potgeter seven. Potgeter was also in on one solo and four assisted blocks while Veldhuizen and De Ronde both had a solo and three assisted blocks. Steph Goslinga handled the setting chores and put up 34 assists and also led teh team in digs with 19 while Becca Schelhaas had 10.
CSM was paced by Amanda Cook with 17 kills. The Flames drop to 1-4 and will travel to a tournament hosted by Northwestern (Minnesota) on Friday and Saturday.
Dordt improves to 4-1 and will go to Cornerstone (Michigan) in Grand Rapids for four matches on Friday and Saturday. Dordt was ranked 22nd in the pre-season NAIA poll and the College of Saint Mary was ranked 14th.
