Dordt College Volleyball vs. Valley City State-Northwestern Tournament

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team survived a five-game marathon match with Valley City State (North Dakota) on Saturday morning at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa.

The Defender took games one and two by game scores of 30-24 and 30-23 before stumbling in game three 31-29 to allow the Vikings an opportunity to come back. Game four went the North Dakotans way as well, finishing the game off with a 35-33 score. Dordt then took the deciding fifth game by a 15-9 margin.

Dordt got 14 kills from Larissa Veldhuizen (Sophomore; Pipestone, Minnesota) on the outside and Kristin De Ronde (Junior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) put down 14 as well. Kendra Potgeter (Freshman; Byron Center, Michigan) continued to have a solid weekend with 10 kills and was in on four block assists, sharing match honors with Veldhuizen in that category.

Emily Van Voorst (Senior; Rock Valley, Iowa) put up 41 assists and also had a team high six service aces. Liz Van Voorst (Junior; Rock Valley, Iowa) led the team with 19 digs and Dorinda Hibma (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) had 11 digs. Betsy Van't Hul (Sophomore; Rock Valley, Iowa) also put awaay five service aces.

Dordt is now 2-1 and conclude the Classic later this afternoon when they face Peru State (Nebraska) at approximately 3:00.
