Dordt College Volleyball vs. Mayville State-Northwestern Tournament

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team earned their first win of the 2007 volleyball season with a 3-1 win over Mayville State at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa on Friday.

The Defenders stumbled out of the gate, losing a 30-27 decision in game number one. Dordt then reeled off a pair of 30-14 wins in games two and three and went on to take game four 30-27.

Emily Van Voorst put up 57 assists and Larissa Veldhuizen led the team with 16 kills. Kendra Potgeter (Freshman; Byron Center, Michigan) had 14 kills with three errors in 32 attempts. Kristin De Ronde (Junior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) banged out 13 kills. Potgter was in on 3 blocks.

Liz Van Voorst had a team high 26 digs and Dorinda Hibma (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) had nine kills and 13 digs.

Mayville State was topped by Alyssa Clancy with 11 kills.

Dordt is 1-0 and will face Georgetown (Kentucky) late tonight. Georgetown is ranked #17 in the country. Dordt is ranked #22.
