Dordt College Volleyball vs. Hastings-GPAC Semifinals

(Hastings, Nebraska) The Dordt College women advanced to the GPAC Championship with a win on the road over Hastings, the #1 team in the conference going into the tournament.
The Defenders trailed in game one by a 14-10 score but were able to battle back behind the hitting of Kristin De Ronde to eventually tie the game at 17-17. The game was then tied at every point through 24-24. Hastings pushed ahead 27-24 only to have the visitors sneak back 27-27. Hastings seemed to weather the storm, going up 28-27 but the Defenders scored three in a row to steal the win 30-28.
Game two was very tense with 13 ties through 18-18. Dordt took a 25-21 lead only to have Hastings storm back to a 25-25 tie. Ties ensued again at 26 and 28 before Hastings took the lead at 29-28 and served for the game. Again, the Defenders scored three in a row to win it 31-29 and go up 2-0 in the match.
The Broncos wouldn't fade that easily. Dordt got things rolling their way in game three, leading 20-18 but the hosts ripped off twelve of the next fourteen points for a convincing 30-22 win.
The momentum continued into game four with Hastings leading 13-8 before Liz Van Voorst served the Defenders to six straight points to give Dordt a 14-13 lead. The Defenders built the lead to 20-17 only to have Hastings again come back to tie the game at 20. Instead of fading, the Defenders dug in and answered teh run with a run of their own to re-establish a 23-20 lead winning by an eventual 30-24 margin with Veldhuizen knocking down her second game winner of the night.
Dordt was led by Kristin De Ronde's 24 kills, followed by Lindsey Van Wyk (14), Larissa Veldhuizen (13), and Haylee Bakker (7). Van Wyk paced the way for a team total of 125 digs with her 37. Traci Kooima added 27 with Liz Van Voorst and Besty Van't Hul recording 23 and 16 respectively. Emily Van Voorst was the Defender assist leader with 46 on the night.
The Broncos were led by Kelsea Jones and Celeste Bauer with 13 kills each while Abbie Welliver had 12 (unofficial totals).
Dordt avenges a 3-2 loss to Hastings at Hastings from October 6 and improve to 27-10 after a 9-8 start to the season. Dordt will travel to Orange City on Saturday to compete in the GPAC Championship game against the Red Raiders. Northwestern beat Doane 3-1 in their semifinal game tonight and will go into the championship game with an overall record of 30-2.
