Dordt College Volleyball vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team fought off the Doane Tigers for a 3-1 win on Friday in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball.

The Defenders fell behind early in game one, trailing 17-10 and again 24-16 before fighting back to tie the game at 26-26. The two teams traded a pair of points to tie it at 28-28 and the Tigers used an illegal contact to get to 29-28 and closed the game 30-28. Game two was all Dordt early as they built a 16-3 and rode that advantage to an eventual 30-25 win.

Game three was the exact opposite of game two as the two teams were even at 6, 7, and 16 before Doane reeled off six of the next seve points for a 22-17 advantage. Dordt answered the peel of points to tie it at 22 but the Tigers flexed their muscle again, taking a 27-23 and were up 28-25 before the Defenders staged a dramatic comeback. With Kristin De Ronde's spot in the rotation in the back row, the Defenders went to Lindsey Van Wyk and the senior responded with two kills at the end for a 30-28 victory. Game four was a replay of game two with Dordt jumping out early to a 13-5 lead and Doane could never make a comeback for a 30-12 final.

Dordt was led by Kristin De Ronde's 31 kills and Lindsey Van Wyk's 19. Larissa Veldhuizen added 10 kills and Emily Van Voorst put up 43 assists and had two ace serves. Cassie Huizenga also had two ace serves and Van Wyk had a team high 32 digs and Traci Kooima 29.

Doane was led by Chelsee Marvin with 14 kills (unofficial) and Kari Hochstein's 13 kills (unofficial).

Dordt has now won 13 of their last 14 matches and are 22-9 overall and 8-4 in the league while Doane drops their second match in a row and go to 21-7 overall and 8-4 in the loop.
