Dordt College Volleyball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a 3-2 decision to Morningside at Allee Gym in Sioux City, Iowa Tuesday night, seeing their 55 match conference winning streak snapped in the process.

The Lady Defenders took game one 30-21 and fought off a comeback by Morningside in game two 30-28.

Game three was all Morningside with the Mustangs winning 30-26 setting up a pivotal game four. Dordt led early in game four but Morningside tied it at 20. From there the teams traded points to 24-24 with Morningside taking a 26-24 lead. After a Dordt timeout, the Defenders scored four of the next five points and took a 28-27 lead but a missed serve tied the game and Morningside went on to win 30-28.

With the momentum squarely behind them, the Mustangs went on to win game five handily 15-7.

Kristin De Ronde had a career high 24 kills for Dordt College with Lindsy Van Wyk putting down seven. Larissa Veldhuizen also had nine kills in the loss while Emily Van Voorst had 51 assists. Traci Kooima led Dordt with 27 digs and Liz Van Voorst had four ace serves.

Cassie Cheever led Morningside wtih 22 kills and Cara DeStigter had 19 kills and 22 digs.

Dordt drops to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Dordt had not lost a regular season GPAC match since October of 2002 when they lost to Midland Lutheran in Fremont, Nebraska.
