Dordt College Volleyball vs. College of Saint Mary

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The College of Saint Mary Flames upset the #5 rated Dordt College Lady Defenders 3-1 in volleyball action at the De Witt Gymnasium on Saturday night, October 16.

Game one featured 13 ties, the last one when Dordt College battled back from down 29-25 to make it 29-29. CSM answered with two points in a row to win 31-29.

Game two was all CSM as they came from down 10-8 to lead 13-10 and never trailed again, scoring nine points in a row at one point to win 30-18.

Backed into a corner, the Lady Defenders came out with a 30-18 decision in game three, forcing a game four which see-sawed back and forth and had 11 ties. Dordt led at one point 25-24 only to see the Flames come back to take the lead on three points in a row. The game was never tied again as CSM won 30-28.

Dordt was led by Amanda Eekhoff's 21 kills while Tara De Boer had 18. Rachel Pontier had 11 kills and Emily Van Voorst led the Lady Defenders with 27 assists. Halley Van Laningham put up 25 and Lindsey Van Wyk and Traci Kooima had a pair of ace serves. Jill Haan led Dordt with 16 digs.

CSM was topped by Kristin Blair wiht 17 kills and Hannah Sheehan had 12. Annie Jankowski had 51 assists and Jennifer Sackett totaled 19 digs.

The loss was the first by Dordt College at the De Witt Gym since a 3-2 loss at the hands of College of St. Mary back on October 26, 2000.
