Dordt College Volleyball vs. Bellevue

October 15, 2004

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Lady Defenders defeated the Bellevue Bruins in non-conference volleyball at the De Witt Gymnasium in Sioux Center on Friday night by game scores of 30-19, 30-19 and 30-27.

Dordt pulled away from a 6-6 tie in game one to build a 14-7 lead and were never really pushed in game one.

Game two featured five ties, the last one at 10-10 before the Lady Defenders again pulled away only to have Bellevue respond with a run to cut it down to 20-17. The Lady Defenders then put together a run of six points in a row to put the game away.

Game three featured eight ties up to 10-10 before Dordt again pulled away 17-11. This time Bellevue responded, cutting the lead down and tying it at 22, 23, 25 and 27. The Lady Defenders then scored the last three points, two on kills by Rachel Van Beek for the win.

Rachel Pontier led Dordt with 14 kills while Tara De Boer added nine. Amanda Eekhoff and Lindsey Van Wyk both had eight kills. Halley Van Laningham had 22 assists and Emily Van Voorst 19. Megan Groeneweg had two ace serves with 11 digs. Traci Kooima and Jill Haan both had 12 kills to lead Dordt College.

Bellevue got 10 kills from Alica Oakeson and Mindy Humphrey added nine. Angela Capellupo had 25 assists and led Bellevue with six digs.
