Dordt College Volleyball vs. Northwestern

September 14, 2004

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Lady Defenders held off the Northwestern Red Raiders in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball tonight at the De Witt Gym.

Dordt won games one and two by comfortable margins of 30-23 and 30-17. In game three the Red Raiders pushed out to a 5-0 lead before Dordt tied it at 7-7. In a game that featured 10 ties, the Red Raiders pulled away late to lead 29-26 and held on for a 30-28 win.

Game four was more of the same with ten ties, the last coming at 25-25. The Lady Defenders pulled away to a 27-25 lead and were never tied again on the way to 30-27 decision.

Amanda Eekhoff led Dordt with 19 kills while Rachel Pontier and Lindsey Van Wyk had 15 kills each. Northwestern was topped by Maggie Freiborg's 17 kills and Carli Blom's 13.

Halley Van Laningham had 29 assists and Emily Van Voorst 26 while Traci Kooima led Dordt with 21 digs.
