Dordt College Softball vs. Baker-OBU Spring Festival

(Shawnee, Oklahoma) The Dordt College softball team lost an 11-3, six inning decision to Baker College (Kansas) on Saturday morning, February 22 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The Defenders scored in the top of the first when Samantha Dunn clubbed a two run homerun after Kassidy Van Voorst started the game with a walk and stolen base. The Defenders took the 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second when Baker pushed a run across.

Leading 2-1, Dordt scored a run in the top of the third when Michal Hoogland singled in Erica White. White had reached on an error by the outfield.

Down 3-1 the Wildcats took advantage of six hits and two errors to scored eight in the bottom of the third to take control of the game and went on to win by virtue of the eight run difference rule after six innings.

Dordt was outhit 11-5. Hoogland had a pair of singles and was the only Defender with more than one hit.

Haley Fligge started the game and went two innings and allowed five runs and five walks with two strikeouts. Ashton Beaird appeared in relief and have up six runs—five of them earned and walked five.

Dordt is 0-3 and will face Hastings later this afternoon.
