Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota State

(Madison, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender softball team won a 10-7 non-conference decision over Dakota State in Madison, South Dakota on Monday afternoon. The Defenders outhit the Lady Tís 15-9 on the way to the win and took advantage of four Dakota State errors to get the win.

Dordt scored one in the first on an Erica White sacrifice fly and tacked on another with a run in the second when Jayden Smolders scored on an Andrea Pierce single.

Dakota State scored one in the bottom of the second but Dordt had a three run answer in the third with Samantha Dunn clubbing a homerun to score White and Ashton Beaird.

Dakota State kept pace with two runs in the bottom of the third but Dordt got a run back in the fourth inning after White doubled and advanced on a single and scored on a throwing error. Dakota State scored another run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the gap to 6-5 but Dordt as much as put the game away with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Defenders got a solo homerun by Ashton Beaird and Sidney Larsen scored a pair of runs with a triple. Larsen eventually scored on a Smolders single.

Dakota State scored two in the bottom of the sixth and neither team scored in the seventh as Dordt won its tenth game of the season.

Ashton Beaird was 5-5 at the plate with Erica White and Sidney Larsen each getting two hits. Samantah Dunn got the win with seven hits allowed, three walks and two strikeouts. Haley Fligge pitched two innings and allowed two runs and five strikeouts.

Beairdís homerun was her eighth of the season and her 21st of her career. She is now the career leader in homeruns at Dordt College.
