Dordt College Softball vs. College of St. Mary

(Omaha, Nebraska) Dordt College came from behind to defeat the College of Saint Mary Flames and earned a sweep of their softball doubleheader on Wednesday, March 27. The Defenders scored six unanswered runs and took advantage of three Flame errors in the 6-2 win.

The Flames scored two runs on three hits but had their inning end with the bases loaded.

Dordt struck for a pair of unearned runs in the second as the Flames committed an error that allowed the two runs to score. The third, fourth and fifth innings were scoreless with Dordt breaking the tie with three in the sixth inning. Shantelle Gritters singled in a run. Brittany Kooiker scored on a passed ball and Sidney Larsen lifted a sacrifice fly that got a run in. The Defenders then tacked on a run in the seventh when Brittany Kooiker came in on a Sadie Bolze single.

Larsen got the win while sidestepping major trouble, allowing 11 hits and she struck out four and walked two. Dordt had three hits with the only extra base hit a double by Kooiker. Dordt took advantage of three walks and three wild pitches for their fourth win of the season.

Shelbi Hatfield and Hannah Mays each had three hits.

Dordt is 4-13 and will open GPAC play on Tuesday, April 2. The Flames fall to 3-5.
