Dordt College Softball vs. Bethel ( KS)

The Dordt College Defender softball team used a 7-0 start in the first two innings and held on for a 12-8 win after relinquishing eight unanswered runs in the middle innings.
The Defenders scored four runs on four hits in the first inning and tacked on three more runs on a combination of one hit and three errors.
Bethel got on the board with six runs on two hits in the third inning while taking advantage of four walks and a batter getting hit by pitch. Two more runs in the fourth gave Bethel an 8-7 lead. The Defenders loaded the bases with a Kim Buyert single followed by an error on a Shantelle Gritters bunt. A bunt that was misplayed loaded the bases and after an out Ashley Van Kooten clubbed a grand slam to give the Defenders the lead and another run made their final margin of victory 12-8.
The Defenders outhit Bethel 10-6 and took advantage of eight Bethel errors. Van Kooten was 2-5 at the plate with four runs batted in and Bethany Dykstra had two hits iwth two runs scored. Brittany Kooiker knocked in three runs and had a single. Haley Huisman reached twice on a pair of walks with a single.
Brittany Kooiker started the game with three innings pitched and allowed eight runs three hits and eight walks. Ashton Beaird came on in relief and allowed three hits and walked one.
