Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota State

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College never led in game one of their doubleheader with Dakota State and fell by a final of 9-7 in non-conference softball in Sioux Center, Iowa on Thursday, April 25. The Defenders fought from behind to tie the game at 5-5 but gave up four runs in the sixth inning before falling in the game that was originally scheduled to be played in Madison, South Dakota but was moved to Sioux Center because of unplayable field conditions.
Dordt scored a run in the second and then got two in the third on a Brittany Kooiker homerun. The Defenders tied the game with a pair of ground outs after a walk and a double by Shantelle Gritters and Kooiker.
Tied 5-5, Dakota State scored four runs on four hits and two errors in the top of the sixth. Dordt scored two in the seventh when Kooiker clubbed her second double of the game and later scored on an error and Sidney Larsen doubled in a run to make the final 9-7. The Defenders did have the tying run at second in the seventh but couldn't get a two out hit.
Larsen took the loss with 11 hits allowed and she struck out six. Six of the runs she gave up were unearned. Kooiker was 3-4 with a homerun and two doubles and she scored three runs and had two runs batted in. Bethany Dykstra, Selena Rinehart and Larsen all had two hits each. Dordt was outhit 11-10 and committed six errors.
