Dordt College Softball vs. Morningside

Before Dordt College even got a chance to come to the plate, they found themselves in a 12-run hole. Morningside used a dozen runs in the first inning to pace an offensive onslaught en route to a 22-4 victory.
The Mustangs did the damage against Dordt starting pitching Brittany Kooiker, though many of the runs were unearned. Four players scored twice in the first inning for Morningside, including Kati Steffen, who capped the rally with a grand slam.
The Mustangs went on to hit three more home runs against Dordt pitching. Mackenzie Neely (solo home run), Kristina Neumann (two-run home run), and Michelle Brockamp (two-run home run) added to Morningside’s GPAC-leading home run total, which now stands at 27.
Emma Remy (7-3) got the win for Morningside. She scattered five hits and allowed four runs in her five-inning start.
The Defenders got one run in the first inning and three runs in the third. Second baseman Ashley Van Kooten led the way for Dordt with two hits and two runs scored. Sidney Larsen also knocked in two runs with a third-inning double.
The game was called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Dordt dropped to 6-23 (2-10) and Morningside moved closer to first place in the GPAC at 18-9 (7-1).
The Defenders travel to Briar Cliff for a pair of games on Wednesday. Morningside will play Wednesday against Dakota Wesleyan.
