Dordt College Softball vs. Bethany

The Dordt Defenders lost an extra inning decision to Bethany (Kansas) on Saturday, March 2 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by a 12-10 decision.
The Defenders took a 5-2 lead after two innings with Ashley Van Kooten clearing the bases with a homerun and Haley Huisman scored earlier in the inning on a bases loaded walk.
Bethany scored one in third and tied it with two in the fourth and took a 7-5 lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. Huisman had a two run homerun in the bottom of the fifth and Bethany Dykstra had a sole homerun to lead off the inning.
Bethany, the visitor on the scoreboard, retook the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Dordt forced extra innings with Ashton Beaird clubbing a one out homerun.
Tied 9-9, Bethany got three runs on two homeruns for a 12-9 advantage. Dordt threatened with Van Kooten knocking in a run with a single but Shantelle Gritters was retired at third base to end the inning and the game.
Bethany outhit the Defenders 16-11 with Sidney Larsen taking the loss with one walk, three strikeouts and 16 hits allowed.
Selena Rinehart was 3-4 at the plate with three singles. Ashley Van Kooten and Ashton Beaird each had two hits and Van Kooten had five runs batted in.
