Dordt College Softball vs. Concordia-GPAC Tournament
May 3, 2012
(Hastings, Nebraska) Three runs in the second and another three in the fourth was all the offense the Concordia Bulldogs needed in dropping the Dordt College Defender softball team into the loser's bracket of the GPAC post-season softball tournament in Hastings, Nebraska on Thursday, May 3.
Dordt surrendered the three in the second on two hits--one of them a solo homerun and the other a two run shot by Nicole Mapes.
Dordt got on the board in the top of the fourth on a Kacy Oberfoell homerun to lead off the inning but that's all the offense Dordt would get in that frame. Concordia came back with three more in the home half of the inning for a 6-1 lead.
Dordt managed to get two runs back on a Haley Huisman homerun in the fifth and a Oberfoell sacrifice fly to make it 6-3 but two more Bulldog runs in the bottom of the sixth stretched the difference out to the final of 8-3. The two runs in the sixth came off of two walks and two Dordt errors.
Dordt outhit Concordia 9-3 but committed three errors and issued five bases on balls.
Kaitlyn Lockhorst and Oberfoell each had two hits for the 20-23 Defenders.
Oberfoell was charged with the loss after starting the game and going three innings and allowed six runs on three hits and two walks. Brittany Kooiker surrendered no runs in two innings of work and Sidney Larsen was charged with the two runs in the sixth inning.
