Dordt College Softball vs. Friends-Friends Classic

(Wichita, Kansas) The Dordt College Defender softball team lost a 4-0 decision to Friends (Kansas) in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, March 3 to open the 2012 season.

Dordt stranded two runners in the fourth inning when Megan Huizenga had a one out single and Ashley Viet followed with a double. The Defenders couldn't come through with the timely hit to push the runners in on the next two at-bats.

Dordt also threatened in the sixth inning when Ashton Beaird singled and Viet was hit by a pitch with one out. A strikeout and a ground out later the score was still tied 0-0.

Friends finally got to Sidney Larsen for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth and the Defenders were retired in the the top of the seventh for a 4-0 final.

Kaitlyn Lockhorst had a pair of hits with Dordt outhitting Friends 6-5. Viet and Lockhorst each had doubles in the loss. Larsen took the loss while allowing four unearned runs with five strikeouts, no walks and she allowed five hits.
