Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux Center, Iowa) A pair of three run innings in the first two frames vaulted the Northwestern Red Raiders to an 8-2 victory over Dordt College in game one of their softball doubleheader in Sioux Center on Tuesday night, April 10.
Northwestern scored three in the first inning on a homerun by Shelby Johnson that scored Jillian Kleinhesselink and Heidi Esdohr after they had back to back singles to lead off the inning. Northwestern scored three more in the second inning, taking advantage of a hit and two Dordt errors for a 6-0 lead. All of the runs in the second inning were unearned.
Dordt got two back in the second on a homerun by Megan Huizenga, scoring Kacy Oberfoell who had walked to begin the inning.
Northwestern plated a seventh run in the third inning and Dordt threatened again in their half of the third, but stranded two runners. Northwestern scored one more in the seventh for the final of 8-2.
Dordt was outhit 11-7 and Megan Huizenga was the lone Defender to have multiple hits, going 2-3 with a single and double and two runs batted in.
Kacy Oberfoell took the loss after allowing eight runs--five of them earned, walked three and struck out eight.
Keely Bracelin was the winning pitcher and allwoed two runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Jill Kleinhesselink had two hits along with Esdohr and Kara Nonnemacher had two doubles for Northwestern.
