Dordt College Softball vs. Concordia
March 24, 2012
(Sioux Center, Iowa) Two unearned runs in the third inning were enough for the Concordia Bulldogs to take a 2-0 decision over the Dordt Defenders in Great Plains Athletic Conference softball on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Concordia got their two runs after a pair of one out singles put runners at first and second. A sacrifice bunt was misplayed and two runs came in to score on the play as the runner reached safely and the ball got away from Katelyn Lockhorst who was covering first on the play. Concordia got no more but the Defenders struggled to get any threats going.
The best chance for the Defenders came in the fifth inning when Megan Huizenga and Bethany Dykstra both reached but were stranded at first and second as the next three batters were retired. Bethany Dykstra reached in the seventh with two outs to get the tying run to the plate but the Defenders stranded her to end the game.
Kacy Oberfoell took the loss for Dordt after pitching seven innings and struck out five with six hits allowed and no walks. Nicole Sempek got the win for the Bulldogs with three hits allowed and nine strikeouts.
Lockhorst had a leadoff double in the fourth for one of Dordt's three hits while Huizenga and Dykstra got credit for Dordt's other base knocks.
