Dordt College Softball vs. Morningside--GPAC Tournament

(Sioux City, Iowa) Seven runs in the first two innings proved to be more than enough for Morningside to defeat the Dordt Defenders in GPAC softball action at the post-season tournament in Sioux City. The Mustangs advanced to the loser's bracket championship with the 11-4 win, ending the Dordt season in the process.

Morningside scored three in the bottom of the first but the Defenders responded with two in the second when Kaitlyn Lockhorst reached on an error and was knocked in on a two-run homerun by Hailey Huisman with two outs.

Morningside regained the momentum with four in the second and got up 9-2 with two more in the fourth. The Defenders got two back in the top of the fifth when Chelsie Harris reached and Sarah Seymour knocked her seventh homerun of the season. Dordt could get no more and surrendered two more in the fifth.

Morningside out hit Dordt 11-6 with Megan Huizenga getting two hits. Seymour and Huisman had the lone extra base hits for Dordt with their homeruns.

Amanda Nikkel absorbed the loss while allowing nine runs on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout. Amber Soodsma pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Dordt ends its season with a 19-15 mark. This marks the conclusion of the softball careers of Kassandra Heynen, Sarah Seymour, Amanda Nikkel and Amber Soodsma.
