Dordt College Softball vs. Friends

(Wichita, Kansas) The Dordt Defenders lost an 11-5 decision to Friends (Kansas) in their season opener on Tuesday afternoon in Wichita, Kansas. The Defenders were hurt by six errors in their first outing of the season.
Dordt got three in the first inning with Amber Soodsma coming around on a Paige Fynaardt single. Kassandra Heynen singled in Fynaardt and Megan Huizenga had a sacrifice fly that scored Sarah Seymour. Friends scored two runs on three hits in the first inning.
Seymour homered in the third inning to put the Defenders up 4-2 but the Falcons scored five runs in the third inning on three hits and five errors. The Defenders were never able to make up the needed ground, getting one back in the fifth inning on a Megan Huizenga double that scored Rachael Veurink. Friends ended up winning 11-5 with one run in the sixth for an 11-5 final.
Dordt was outhit 14-9. Sarah Seymour, Kassandra Heynen and Megan Huizenga all had two hits with Huizenga and Heynen each knocking a double. Seymour had the homerun and also walked twice and scored two times. Amber Soodsma took the loss, working the distance and allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
