Dordt College Softball vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan

(Sterling, Kansas) Dordt College dug themselves an early hole, fought back to tie the game, but eventually lost a 9-8 extra inning decision to Oklahoma Wesleyan at a Softball Classic hosted by Sterling College (Kansas).
The Defenders gave up five runs in the first but an Amber Soodsma three-run homerun cut the gap to 5-3 after two innings. Wesleyan came throught with run in response in the third but it was Soodsma again striking for the long ball in the fourth inning, going yard with a three run homerun that evened the score.
A single run in the sixth by Wesleyan put them up 7-6 heading into the final frame. Dordt was able to hold Wesleyan without a run in the top of the seventh and struck for the tying run on an Ashley Viet single that scored Bethany Dykstra from second. Dykstra initially reached on an error and got into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Wesleyan got two runs in the eighth inning. Dordt responded in the extra frame by putting a threat together with two outs. Shantelle Gritters scored on a Paige Fynaardt single and Fynaardt ended up on second after an error. The Defenders got the scenario they wanted with Sarah Seymour at the plate but the senior was retired on a flyout to second base to end the game.
Soodsma was 3-5 with two homeruns and six runs batted in. Fynaardt was 3-4 with run batted in and reached on a walk. Viet was 3-4 at the plate and knocked in a run. Kaitlyn Lockhorst scored two runs. Brittany Kooiker started the game on the mound and went five innings with seven hits allowed and three earned runs given up. Amanda Nikkel absorbed the loss as she worked the final three innings and was charged with three runs and struck out two.
