Dordt College Softball vs. Bethany

(Lindsborg, Kansas) The Dordt Defenders held on for a 7-6 win over Bethany in game two of the doubleheader in Lindsborg, Kansas.
The Defenders scored one run in the second inning when Kassandra Heynen slugged a homerun to lead off the inning. Dordt got two more runs in the fourth inning with Megan Huizenga clubbing a two-out homerun. Bethany Dykstra followed that with a single and she advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Ashley Viet then doubled in Dykstra for a 3-0 lead. The lead grew to 5-0 with Seymour banging a two run homerun with two outs in the inning. The Defenders stranded a runner in the sixth and Bethany broke through in the following inning with three runs on three hits with an error to cut the 5-0 lead to 5-3. Dordt got two of those runs back in the seventh with Dykstra walking with the bases loeaded and Shantelle Gritters scored on a fielder's choice. Bethany scraped together three runs in the bottom of the seventh but the rally ended with the bases empty on a catch in foul territory by Paige Fynaardt.
Dordt outhit the hosts 10-8 with Bethany Dykstra and Jocelyn Bousema each banging out two hits. Amber Soodsma had a pair of runs scored while Fynaardt, Dykstra and Viet each had doubles. Seymour, Heynen and Huizenga each had homeruns. Soodsma earned the win with eight hits allowed, six runs and one strikeout. The Defenders are now 3-3 and will play three games on Friday.
