Dordt College Softball vs. Bethany

(Lindsborg, Kansas) The Dordt College Defender softball team couldn't overcome an early deficit and five defensive errors in dropping a 5-4 decision to Bethany in Lindsborg, Kansas. The Defenders actually came back to take a lead in the sixth inning but surrendered two runs in the bottom half of the frame in losing 5-4.
Bethany scored one run in each of the first two frames before Dordt tied it with two in the fourth inning. Megan Huizenga singled with two outs in the inning and Bethany Dykstra followed that with a single. An Ashley Viet triple plated two runs and tied the game. Bethany answered with a run in the fourth for a 3-2 lead.
A Paige Fynaardt double in the fifth scored Kaitlyn Lockhorst to tie the game in the fifth and the Defenders took a lead with a Haley Huisman double that scored Huizenga who had reached initially on a double of her own. An error came back to get the Defenders in the sixth inning, allowing the inning to be extended and two unearned runs came across to give the hosts a 5-4 win in game one of the doubleheader.
Sarah Seymour, Megan Huizenga and Bethany Dykstra all had two hits with Dykstra scoring twice. Viet had two runs batted in.
Amanda Nikkel took the loss with nine hits allowed, five runs--two of them earned and struck out two.
