Dordt College Softball vs. Central Christian

(McPherson, Kansas) The Dordt College Defender softball team never trailed and managed to overcome six defensive errors in winning a 10-7 decision over Central Christian in McPherson, Kansas on March 16.
Dordt plated three runs in the first inning with Megan Huizenga knocking in two on a single and Bethany Dykstra doubled in Huizenga for the third run of the frame.
Five more runs came in the second inning with Sarah Seymour knocking in a pair with a single and Huizenga clubbed a three run homerun with two outs in the inning.
After a scoreless third inning Central Christian took advantage of five Dordt errors to get five runs across in the fourth inning on just one hit. Central Christian kept the pressure on with two runs in the fifth to cut the gap to 8-7. A scoreless sixth inning got the Defenders settled down and Bethany Dykstra had a double to scored Rachael Veurink and Huizenga for the eventual final of 10-7.
Amber Soodsma was the winning pitcher, allowing seven runs--two of them earned with five hits and four bases on ball with three strikeouts. Soodsma led the defense with three hits and two runs scored while Seymour, Huizenga and Dykstra all had two hits each. Huizenga knocked in five runs and scored three while Dykstra had three runs batted in on her two doubles.
Dordt is now 2-2 and will face Bethany College on Thursday, March 17.
