Dordt College Softball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) Dordt erupted for five runs in the eighth inning to take a 7-2 win over the Mount Marty Lancers on Tuesday night and swept the twinbill in GPAC action, lifting their record above the .500 mark in the process.
Dordt's two runs in the fourth gave them a brief 2-1 lead on a Sarah Seymour homerun.
Mount Marty came back to tie the game and send it to extra innings with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on three hits and an error. The Lancers missed the opportunity to take the lead when the inning ended with the bases full.
Both teams left baserunners on in the sixth and seventh innings with Dordt erupting for the winning runs in the top of the eighth. Dordt's Amber Soodsma tripled to lead the inning off and Paige Fynaardt knocked her in with a single. Sarah Seymour delivered a double in the inning to get two more runs in and Dordt sent 11 batters to the plate before the half inning ended with the bases loaded.
Amber Soodsma worked an uneventful bottom of the inning for her seventh win of the season. Soodsma allowed nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Soodsma and Lockhorst each had two hits with Soodsma scorings two runs. Sarah Seymour had four hits with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Dordt is 11-7 in the conference with a doubleheader against Doane remaining on Friday night in Sioux Center. Dordt is 15-14 overall. Mount Marty slips to 7-19 and 6-10 in the league.
