Dordt College Softball vs. Midland

(Fremont, Nebraska) Dordt earned a sweep of the Midland Warriors in Great Plains Athletic Conference softball action on Saturday with an 8-6 in Fremont, Nebraska.

Dordt never trailed , taking a 2-0 lead after the top of the third when Sarah Seymour clubbed a homerun with Amber Soodsma on first after a single. Midland got two in the bottom of the third to make it 2-2.

Dordt got three in the fourth with Ashley Viet reaching on a fielder's choice and Kaitlyn Lockhorst scored her on a double. Amber Soodsma then followed with a homerun to make it 5-2.

Midland scored one off of Soodsma in the fifth but the Defenders got out to an 8-3 lead in the sixth when Viet singled with two outs. She stole second and Lockhorst knocked her in with a double. Soodsma followed with an rbi single and eventually came around to score on a double steal.

Soodsma got the win with nine hits allowed and four earned runs given up. She walked one and struck out eight, allowing a three run homerun in the seventh that trimmed the lead to 8-6.

Soodsma was 3-4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Fynaardt was 2-4 with a double and Lockhorst had a pair of doubles and was 2-3 with two runs scored. Midland's Erica Miller absorbed the loss while allowing eight runs on ten hits with four strikeouts.

Dordt is now 11-12 overall and 7-5 in the GPAC with ten conference games remaining. Midland falls to 3-9 and 10-23 overall. Dordt will travel to Briar Cliff on Monday.
