Dordt College Softball vs. Hastings

(Sioux Center, Iowa) For the second game in a row the Dordt Defender softball team couldn't overcome defensive miscues and lost a 6-2 decision to Hastings in Great Plains Athletic Conference action at Open Space Park.
Dordt scored the first run of the game when Amber Soodsma singled and later scored on a Megan Huizenga fielder's choice. Hastings struck back with five unearned runs on three errors and two hits in the third inning to take a lead they never relinquished. Dordt missed an opportunity to get closer when they stranded two baserunners in the fourth with Bethany Dykstra getting thrown out at the plate to end the frame.
Hastings tacked on a run in the fourth and Dordt got their second run on a Dykstra homerun, her second of the doubleheader, in the sixth inning.
Both teams had seven hits with Soodsma and Dykstra both accounting for two Dordt hits while Hastings Felicia Graff, Rochelle Finnigan and Molly Mullervy all had two hits.
Amber Soodsma took the loss while striking out six and walking one with seven hits allowed and six unearned runs. Hastings got the win for MacKenzie Welchert with five strikeouts and two runs allowed.
Dordt falls to 4-4 in the league and 7-10 overall while Hastings is 5-3 and 16-12.
Dordt will host Morningside on Tuesday, April 12 in its next outing.
