Dordt College Softball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defenders earned a 2-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Nebraska in game one of the Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Dordt missed a chance to score early but came from behind 1-0 to score two in the sixth for the win with Amanda Nikkel getting the pitching win.
Dordt's Amber Soodsma was thrown out trying to score on a fly ball by Sarah Seymour in the first and for a while it looked like that the missed opportunity would haunt the Defenders.
The hosts scored one in the fifth inning on a lead off homerun but Dordt had an answer in the following half inning. Paige Fynaardt singled with one out and Shantelle Gritters, running for Fynaardt, scored on a Seymour double. Seymour was retired trying to advance on third on the throw home. Dordt re-started the threat with two outs, getting a Megan Huizenga single with one out and Jocelyn Bousema scored on a Bethany Dykstra double for the game winner. Bousema was running for Huizenga.
Dordt threatened again in the seventh but stranded two runners. Wesleyan also got the tying run on in the seventh inning but couldn't get the hit to tie the game.
Nikkel got the win while allowing six hits and striking out six with no walks issued. Amber Soodsma had two hits and six other players had one hit each as Dordt outhit the hosts 8-6. Seymour, Dykstra and Ashley Viet all had doubles for the Defenders.
