Dordt College Softball vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) The Dordt Defenders forced a split of their conference doubleheader with the Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday, March 19 in Seward, Nebraska with a wild 11-7 win in game two of the doubleheader. The two teams combined for 29 hits and the Defenders never trailed in taking their fourth win of the season.
Dordt got a run in the first with Sarah Seymour singling in Paige Fynaardt with one out. Kassandra Heynen gave Dordt a 2-0 lead with a leadoff homerun in the second inning. The Defenders took control of the game with three more runs in the third as Bethany Dykstra knocked in one run and Alissa Reeves doubled in two more.
Concordia got on the board with a run in the third but Dordt answered with two more on a Sarah Seymour homerun. Concordia kept pace with two more in the fourth but the Defenders had an answer with two in the fifth on a Fynaardt single and put the game away with a Bethany Dykstra two run single in the seventh.
Amber Soodsma got the win while scattering 14 hits and striking out seven.
Fynaardt and Seymour both had three hits with Fynaardt scoring three times and knocking in two. Seymour scored twice and had three runs batted in. Bethany Dykstra and Jocelyn Bousema each had two hits and Dykstra knocked in a pair.
Dordt is now 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC. Dordt is scheduled to host Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, March 26 in its next outing.
