Dordt College Softball vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College's Amanda Nikkel threw a one-hitter in a 10-1 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers on Thursday night in Sioux Center, Iowa. Dordt banged out nine hits in the win and took advantage of a Briar Cliff error for the five inning win.
Dordt got two in the first inning when Sarah Seymour reached on a fielder's choice that got Amber Soodsma in from third. After a fly out Megan Huizenga hit a triple that scored Seymour.
Dordt got two more in the third with Amber Huizenga clubbing a homerun to leftfield for a 4-0 lead. Two more runs came in the third with Huizenga blasting a two run shot to left-center for a 6-0 lead. A Sarah Seymour solo homerun opened the scoring in the fourth and Jaci Ver Mulm singled in another run. Kaitlyn Lockhorst singled in two runs for a 10-0 lead.
Briar Cliff did scratch out a run in the fifth as they capitalized on a throwing error after breaking up Amanda Nikkel's no hit bid with a bunt single.
Amanda Nikkel retired the first nine batters she faced and allowed just one hit and struck out two with no walks issued. Camille Cruz took the loss after working two innings and allowed four runs. Amber Soodsma was 2-3 with two runs scored and tow runs batted in. Megan Huizenga was 2-2 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Kaitlyn Lockhorst was 2-3 with two runs batted in. Sarah Seymour, Kassandra Heynen and Jaclyn Ver Mulm all had one hit.
Dordt is now 17-17 overall and 13-9 in the GPAC while Briar Cliff falls to 10-10 in the conference and 16-17 overall. Dordt will travel to Hastings on Saturday, May 1 for their final doubleheader of the regular season.
