Dordt College Softball vs. Mayville State

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team took a 10-2 win over the Mayville State Comets on Monday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Dordt pulled away from a 2-2 deadlock with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and ended the game with four runs in the sixth inning in the shortened decision.
Dordt scored two in the first inning when Amber Soodsma knocked in Kaitlyn Lockhorst with a single and Kassandra Heynen got a runner across with a single of her own for a 2-1 lead. The Comets scored one in the fifth inning to tie the game but the Defenders came alive and answered the challenge with four runs on five hits. Sarah Seymour laced a single for a run and Megan Huizenga lashed a double to score Seymour. A Paige Fynaardt single scored Heynen after Heynen had ripped a double to get a run in.
Dordt wiggled out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth and ended the game with four runs in the sixth getting two on a homerun clubbed by Heynen into the stiff breeze and another two scored when Becca Hengeveld bunted for a base hit and the throw went up the rightfield line and allowed two runs--Haley Huisman and Jaclyn Ver Mulm to score.
Dordt outhit Mayville State 16-13 with Amber Soodsma and Kassandra Heynen both getting three hits. Sarah Seymour had multiple hits with everhone in teh Dordt lineup getting at least one base hit. Heynen knocked in a team high four runs.
Brittany Kooiker got the win while allowing two runs on ten hits and walked one with one strikeout.
