Dordt College Softball vs. New England College

(Clermont, Florida) The Dordt College Defender softball team took a 9-0 decision over New England College on Wednesday at Clermont, Florida in a game that was shortened by the eight run difference rule.
Dordt scored four in the first while taking advantage of two hits and two errors with Kassandra Heynen providing an rbi single and Megan Huizenga had the other base hit and eventually scored. Dordt tacked on three more runs in the second with Kaitlyn Lockhorst singling and eventually scoring on a Carla Vander Woude ground out. Amber Soodsma scored on a Megan Huizenga single and Jaclyn Ver Mulm also had a base hit to score a run.
Heynen homered to lead off the third inning and Soodsma singled in Becca Hengeveld in the fifth.
Dordt outhit New England 10-5 and took advantage of three Pilgrim errors. Huizenga, Soodsma, Hengeveld and Heynen each had two base hits with Soodsma scoring two runs and knocking in two. Vander Woude got credit for two runs batted in without getting credit for a hit. Lockhorst and Huizenga each had two runs scored.
Soodsma got the win with five hits allowed, no walks and eight strikeouts. Dordt is now 1-7 and is scheduled to face Dakota Wesleyan on March 24.
