Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College took advantage of three Northwestern errors and won an 8-0, five inning decision, over the Red Raiders in GPAC play on Tuesday night in Sioux Center. The win capped a doubleheader sweep and evened Dordt's record in the league at 7-7 heading into a doubleheader wiht Dana on Wednesday night in Blair, Nebraska.
Dordt scored one run in the second with Haley Huisman banging out a single that scored Kassandra Heynen. Dordt got a second run in the third inning when Amber Soodsma walked and came in from first when Sarah Seymour lifted a fly ball to leftfield that was dropped.
A third run came in the fourth inning when Becca Hengeveld doubled in Jaclyn Ver Mulm with two outs.
Dordt ended the game with five runs in the fifth when Carla Vander Woude doubled in Kaitlyn Lockhorst and Seymour singled in Vander Woude. A Heynen single put runners at second and third. After a flyout Ver Mulm lifted another fly ball to leftfield that was dropped and got two runs in. Ver Mulm eventually scored on a throwing error on a bouncer to the pitcher.
Dordt had six hits and stranded four. Vander Woude and Hengeveld each had doubles. Heynen was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Amanda Nikkel was in control the whole way, allowing just three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks issued.
Dordt is now 7-7 in the league and 11-15 overall. Northwestern is now 7-25 overall and 3-13 in the conference. Dordt will travel to Dana in Blair, Nebraska on Wednesday, April 21.
