Dordt College Softball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Morningside Mustangs made it a sweep of Dordt in a softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Sioux City with a 9-1 decision.

Dordt struggled to get any offense going against the Mustangs, mustering three hits for the day, getting their lone run on a solo homerun by Megan Huizenga in the fifth to avert the shutout. Morningside ended the game on a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the game an eight run difference.

Dordt's three hits were accounted for with Huizenga getting a double and homerun and Amber Soodsma had a single.

Brittany Kooiker pitched the first tow and a third innings and allowed eight runs on seven hits, three walks and a strikeout. Amanda Nikkel went the final inning and two-third and gave up a run on three hits. Morgan Swanson got the win for Morningside with seven strikeouts and three hits allowed.

Dordt is 5-5 in the conference and 9-13 overall. Morningside improves to 11-1 in the conference and 23-5 overall.
