Dordt College Softball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) Dordt College pounded out 18 hits on the way to a 17-2 win over the Sioux Falls Cougars in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday night, April 7. The Defenders were paced by two Sarah Seymour homeruns for their third win of the Great Plains Athletic Conference season.

Dordt got five in the first with Seymour slugging a two run homerun to start the scoring. Jaclyn Ver Mulm singled in a run in the same frame and Becca Hengeveld doubled in two runs to cap the inning. Dordt got two more in the second when Megan Huizenga had a two run single, one of three hits she would get on the night.

Sioux Falls got to Dordt starter Amber Soodsma for a run in the third but only after Dordt had plated five more in the top of the frame. Seymour singled in one and Huizenga belted a two run single. Ver Mulm produced a run with a single and the Defenders ended up with five runs on five hits.

Leading 12-1 the Defenders scored five in the fourth with Soodsma getting two across with a double and Seymour clouted a three run homerun as Dordt had six hits in the inning.

Dordt allowed one run in the fourth for the final of 17-2.

Dordt had four players bang out three hits each with Seymour producing six runs batted in with two homeruns and a single. Huizenga scored two runs and had four runs batted in with three singles. Ver Mulm had two runs batted in and Carla Vander Woude was 3-3 with three runs scored. Soodsma was 2-4 with four runs scored and three runs batted in in support of her pitching effort. Becca Hengeveld had a single and a double for two runs batted in and she scored two runs.

Soodsma went the five innings on the mound and allowed four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
