Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) Dordt took a sweep of the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in softball action Wednesday night in Mitchell, South Dakota with a 4-0 eight inning decision.
A scoreless game through regulation, the Defenders got a single from Becca Hengeveld to start the eighth. Kaitlyn Lockhorst reached on an error and Carla Vander Woude reached on a walk to load the bases. Amber Soodsma delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Hengeveld and Lockhorst scored on what was ruled an error on the leftfielder. With Vander Woude at second base Sarah Seymour clubbed the offering for a homerun and Amanda Nikkel ample room to work on the mound to get the eight inning win.
Nikkel struck out three and walked none with four hits allowed. Seymour was 2-4 with one run scored and two runs batted in. Lockhorst, Vander Woude, Megan Huizenga and Hengeveld all had a base hit as well for Dordt's total of six with Huizenga getting a double to lead off the seventh but was stranded on base when the inning ended.
Dordt is 2-0 in league play and 3-7 overall. Dakota Wesleyan is 0-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Play and 4-11 overall. Dordt is scheduled to face Mayville State (North Dakota) at home on Monday and Tuesday, March 29 and 30 in non-conference action.
