Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender softball team scored a pair of runs late in the game to take game one of a doubleheader with Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 24 in Mitchell, South Dakota. Amber Soodsma got credit for the shut out pitching win in a 2-0 decision that gave Dordt their second win of the season.
Dordt rallied with two outs in the sixth inning when Amber Soodsma singled and Sarah Seymour knocked her in with a triple for a 1-0 lead. Dordt got a run for insurance in the seventh when Kassandra Heynen doubled and advanced to third on a Becca Hengeveld ground out. Kaitlyn Lockhorst delivered a single that gave Dordt some breathing room heading into the bottom of the inning.
Dordt needed that breathing room when Dakota Wesleyan threatened but stranded runners at second and third when the game ended on a ground out.
Soodsma got the win on the mound despite not striking out a Wesleyan batter. She allowed four hits and didn't walk a batter. Lockhorst was 2-4 at the plate with one run batted in with a double and a stolen base. Seymour was 2-2 with a run batted in and a triple and Heynen and Soodsma accounted for Dordt's other hits as they outhit the Tigers 6-4.
Dordt will face Wesleyan in game two of the doublehitter.
