Dordt College Softball vs. Midland (NE)

(Sioux City, Iowa) Dordt College's softball season came to a close in an elimination game at the GPAC Tournament on Thursday night in Sioux City, Iowa. The Defenders went to extra innings with Midland Lutheran before dropping the 3-2 decision to end their season at 21-24.
Dordt got on the board in the first inning when Becca Hengeveld scored an unearned run. Midland Lutheran scored in the fourth to tie it and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Defenders managed to fight back for a tie when Sarah Visser doubled and Kaitlyn Lockhorst ran for her. Lockhorst stole third base and scored on an Amanda Nikkel single with one out in the inning.
The two teams played a scoreless eighth before Midland Lutheran won it with a two-out single with a runner on third base to take the 3-2 decision.
Dordt was outhit 10-5 and got a 2-3 day at the plate from Sarah Visser. Hengeveld had a single and Nikkel was 1-3. Sarah Seymour was 1-4 with a triple. Soodsma takes the loss working in relief as she allowed one run, walked one and struck out two in three and two-thirds innings. Sarah Visser started the game with five innings pitched with two runs, two walks and one strikeout.
Dordt closes their year with a 21-24 record while Midland Lutheran advances to day two with a 34-13 record.
