Dordt College Softball vs. Peru State

(Peru, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender softball team dropped game one of their doubleheader with Peru State on Wednesday in Peru, Nebraska by a 3-1 count. Dordt allowed one earned run and committed two errors while stranding four in the loss. Peru State stranded three in their season opening win.

Dordt got their lone run of the game in the second inning when Sarah Seymour walked and Amanda Nikkel sacrificed her to second. After a fly ball out Melissa Ver Haar doubled in Seymour from second for a 1-0 lead. Ver Haar was thrown out trying to advance to third on the play.

Peru State scored an earned run in the third and then won the game with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth when they capitalized on two Dordt errors.

Sarah Visser allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out ten in six innings pitched.

Ver Haar had a double and run batted in and Dorinda Hibma had Dordt's other base hit--a single.
