Dordt College Softball vs. Southwestern--Oklahoma Baptist Tournament

(Shawnee, Oklahoma) Dordt College scored two runs in the fourth inning but they committed four errors on defense that allowed Southwestern (Kansas) five unearned runs on the way to a 9-2 win by the Kansas school in a game hosted by Oklahoma Baptist.

Southwestern scored one in the first and four more in the third before Dordt got on the board in the fourth inning. Amber Soodsma singled with one out and stole second base. She scored when Sarah Seymour clubbed a homerun. Dordt had another chance to score earlier in the game when Amanda Nikkel had a leadoff double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Nikkel was stranded at third after three Dordt hitters were retired. Nikkel also had a single in the fifth inning in Dordt's seventh loss of the season.

Sarah Visser takes the loss after working three innings and allowing three hits with six runs and three walks. Soodsma had six strikeouts in four innings of relief pitching and she was charged with three runs--two of them earned.

Seymour was 2-3 with a single and a homerun and two runs batted in. Nikkel was 2-3 with a double and single and Soodsma was 1-3 with a run scored.

Dordt slips to 3-7 with the loss. The Defenders will face Oklahoma Baptist in a doubleheader on Monday, March 16 at Shawnee, Oklahoma. Dordt's first day of action at the tournament hosted by Oklahoma Baptist on March 13 was called off due to weather conditions and will not be made up.
