Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota State

(Madison, South Dakota) Dordt College played their third doubleheader on the road in three days on Thursday night and came away with a 5-4 win over Dakota State in game one of the twinbill played in Madison, South Dakota.
Dordt scored three in the first inning with Kristin Santana singling and Amber Soodsma knocking her in from third on a base hit. Sarah Seymour delivered a double that scored Soodsma and Jaclyn Ver Mulm capped the three run first with a single that got Seymour in. Dordt got another in the second when Amanda Nikkel singled and Dorinda Hibma pushed her to third with a double. Becca Hengeveld grounded out but the run came in to make it 4-0.
Dordt finished their scoring with a Kristin Santana run scoring single that got Hibma in after she reached on an error and stole second. Dakota State came to life on offense in the fourth with three runs and made it 5-4 with a run in the sixth but couldn't complete the comeback on their home field.
Sarah Visser got the win with three earned runs allowed, three walks, five hits and 11 strikeouts. Santana and Soodsma each had two hits with a run scored and an rbi each while Sarah Seymour delivered a single, double and one run scored. Hibma and Ver Mulm accounted for Dordt's other hits as the Defenders out hit the hosts 9-5.
