Dordt College Softball vs. Oklahoma Baptist

(Shawnee, Oklahoma) The Dordt Defender softball team stumbled in a 4-2 loss to highly regarded Oklahoma Baptist on Monday, March 16 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The Defenders struck for a run in the first inning when Amber Soodsma laced a two-out double and Sarah Seymour doubled her in with two outs. Dordt then scored in the top of the third inning when Becca Hengeveld singled, was moved over on a sacrifice and went to third on a passed ball. Amber Soodsma then delivered a single that scored Hengeveld.

Oklahoma Baptist scored a run in each of their halves of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings in taking the 4-2 win despite getting outhit 7-6. Dordt stranded runners in the fourth and fifth innings, thwarting the comeback.

Dordt got three hits from Amber Soodsma and Seymour had two. Melissa Ver Haar and Hengeveld each had a basehit for Oklahoma Baptist. Sarah Visser went the distance with four runs allowed--three of them earned and she struck out three and walked four.

Dordt is 3-10 and will face Oklahoma City on Tuesday, March 17 in a doubleheader.
