Dordt College Softball vs. McKendree--Oklahoma Baptist Tournament

(Shawnee, Oklahoma) Dordt College lost game one of the rain shortened softball tournament hosted by Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, March 14. The Defenders found themselves on the short end of a 12-5 score in Shawnee, Oklahoma against McKendree.
Dordt allowed a run in the first but got the lead briefly in the second when Megan Huizenga singled and Sarah Seymour walked. The two pulled off a double steal to get in scoring position and Jaclyn Ver Mulm was walked to load the bases. Sarah Visser was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Seymour was retired at home on a fielder's choice and Dorinda Hibma delivered a single that scored Ver Mulm for a 2-1 lead. McKendree scored seven in their half of the third and Dordt got three runs in the fifth.
Mizza Ver Haar reached on an error and Amber Soodsma singled her in. Megan Huizenga came through with a double that scored Soodsma and Seymour banged out a single that got Huizenga in.
Dordt gave up four runs in the sixth and made it 12-5 for the final.
Dordt allowed 17 hits and committed four errors on defense. Soodsma took the loss after working the first two and two-third innings while giving up seven hits and eight runs. She walked five and struck out one. Amanda Nikkel worked the final four and a third innings and was charged with ten hits and four runs with a strikeout.
Huizenga had two of Dordt's five hits with a run scored and a run batted in. Hibma was 1-4 with an rbi and Soodsma and Seymour also got credit for base hits with a run batted in each.
Dordt is 3-6 and will face Southwestern later in the day.
