Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota State

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders came from behind for the second game in a row to preserve a non-conference softball sweep on Wednesday, April 8 in games played in Sioux City. The Defenders ran their winning streak to seven with a 7-4 win over the Dakota State Trojans.
The Trojans struck for four runs in the top of the second and were still up 4-3 after Mizza Ver Haar knocked in two Dordt runs with a single in the home half of the frame and Becca Hengeveld pushed Ver Haar in with a single of her own. The two teams played a scoreless third with Dordt getting three more in the fourth. The Defenders did all their damage with two outs when Kristin Santana was hit by a pitch. Hengeveld singled and Amber Soodsma walked to load the bases. Sarah Seymour then delivered a single that was misplayed by the Dakota State centerfielder and allowed the Defenders to clear the bases and take a 6-4 lead. Dordt got one for insurance in the sixth when Santana doubled and scored on a Soodsma single.
Dordt was outhit 7-6 with Hengeveled going 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Soodsma, Seymour and Ver Haar all ahd base hits in support of Sarah Visser's seven hitter. Visser got the win while walking four and striking out seven.
Dordt is now 13-17 overall and has won seven games in a row--their longest winning streak since 2002. The Defenders have a week off before hosting Sioux Falls on April 15. Dakota State falls to 9-9.
