Dordt College Softball vs. Hastings

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Hastings College Broncos scored a 9-4 win over the Dordt Defenders in Great Plains Athletic Conference softball on Friday night at Open Space Park in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Broncos snapped the Dordt nine game winning streak when they scored four runs in the fourth inning, turning a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead that they never relinquished.
Dordt got their runs in the home half of the third inning when they got a single by Amanda Nikkel followed by a Dorinda Hibma bunt single. Kristin Santana then reached on an error and Becca Hengeveld then knocked in two runs when she reached on an throwing error. An Amber Soodsma fly out provided a run and Sarah Seymour knocked in a run with a ground out. Hastings then got their four runs in the fourth inning on three hits and tacked on one more in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Hastings out hit the Defenders 13-5 and got three hits from Chelsey Woodside and Sara Sidey. The Defenders got two singles from Amanda Nikkel and one hit each by Kristin Santana, Jaclyn Ver Mulm and Dorinda Hibma.
Amber Soodsma took the loss allowing 13 hits, eight runs and one walk with two strikeouts. Chelsey Woodside pitched the complete game and allowed five hits, no earned runs and walked one with four strikeouts. Amanda Nikkel pitched in relief for the Defenders.
